My love for the 2023 Pinot Noirs has only grown since we began releasing them last year. They’re like shy flowers, slowly opening to reveal their delicate beauty, structure and individuality.
The 2023s are not typical of our site or region. The weather and pace of the vintage harkened back to the 1990s. In farming, no two years are the same, but 2023 is such an outlier as to be incomparable to any vintage in our history. The 2023 wines are a unique opportunity to experience wines evocative of a time not seen on the Sonoma Coast in decades.
What should you expect when you taste these wines? First, the aromatics that greet you are so fine, so detailed. Then the palate: mid-weight and finely wrought, with a silky presence and remarkable persistence.
I’ve always marveled at wines that offer a complete experience and yet remain light on their feet. There’s something entrancing about a delicate Burgundy that fully captures your senses, and yet glides across the palate like a bird.
The 2023 Pinot Noirs have that ethereal, all-encompassing quality.
This is our final release from the vintage, and it includes three of our top wines: the Block 8, Reserve and Raschen Ridge Pinot Noirs. They are three of our most powerful, dense, and structured wines. In 2023, the character of each is fully present, yet filtered through the 2023 vintage’s notable elegance. It’s a remarkable year to experience the terroir of our top wines, shown in crystalline transparency.
Lastly, I must mention our one and only white wine, the 2024 Estate Chardonnay, which is also in this release. This vintage has a captivating and seductive profile that balances richness with restraint, with a faint saline note evocative of the Pacific Ocean.
