Dear Friends,
The 2024 wines from Hirsch are a return to classic California. Exuberant, harmonious and full of energy, these are wines of great pleasure that can be enjoyed young. However, their immediacy does not come at the cost of precision or site character, which the 2024s have in spades.
The 2024 vintage was remarkable for its benevolent weather and harvest conditions. Perfectly-timed weather during bloom ensured a generous crop, a rarity here on the coast. A warm July was followed by a mild August, gifting us with ideal ripening weather. Harvest saw no rain or heat events, ensuring flawless fruit in the cellar.
These conditions produced expressive and mouthwatering wines with a silky texture, moderate tannins and a gorgeous red fruit profile. Deeply aromatic and inviting on the nose, they are effortlessly drinkable.
This is our first release of estate Pinot Noirs from 2024. The 2024 San Andreas is fragrant, juicy and mouthwatering. Its generous, open-knit texture makes this wine exceptionally approachable in its youth. Drink now, or hold for a few years.
The 2024 West Ridge reminds me of my father’s quote about this vineyard: “The wines of the West Ridge have a gentle, supple personality, and are, shall we say, romantic.” This is a shy, delicate beauty that will reward patience, curiosity and an appreciation of gentleness. The 2024 West reminds me of the 2010, which was similarly restrained upon release, but with age gained compelling weight, texture, and length.
The 2024 East Ridge is silky, compact and expressive, showing this mountain vineyard through the lens of the approachable 2024 vintage. The 2024 has the dark fruit and energy characteristic of this vineyard, tempered by the restrained tannins of this vintage.
The 2024 vintage is a reminder of the joys of expressive, aromatic, drinkable wines. I look forward to sharing these new releases with you.
Warm regards,
Jasmine Hirsch
