Welcome to our Winter Release, which includes three Hirsch Pinot Noirs from the supremely delicious 2024 vintage: Block 8, Family Blend and Maritime.
The 2024 Pinot Noirs are showing remarkably well in their youth. I cannot recall a vintage with such early expressiveness. However, their immediacy does not come at the cost of precision or site character, which the 2024s have in spades.
My father loved the Block 8 vineyard. It was his grand cru parcel, and the vineyard he would always show to visiting winemakers and luminaries. 2024 gifted us with a peak expression of this remarkable site, showcasing concentrated fruit combined with the classic minerality of this rocky vineyard. It’s hedonistically delicious and yet has gravitas, complexity and balance.
We have moved Block 8 to the Winter Release, and it will be included here going forward.
This release also includes the 2024 Maritime Pinot Noir, a wine that deeply evokes the ocean and forests that define Hirsch Vineyards. This vintage beautifully marries the savory character of the Maritime Fields with the pure, red fruit of 2024. Sweet cherries and strawberries intermingle with wet stone, mint and sassafras, evoking the wild licorice and redwood trees that surround this vineyard.
Last but never least is the Family Blend. My dad and I made this wine together for the first time in 2008. It reminds me of what he loved most in wine: authenticity, craft, site specificity and deliciousness. The 2024 Family Blend has all of those qualities. It is showing beautifully in its youth and can be enjoyed now with great pleasure.
